Repeated run-ins with the law have slowed the artist's career: Original will be the rapper's first album in over 10 years, following 2001's Tarantula. Mystikal was set to release his upcoming sixth studio album, Original, on Cash Money Records after signing in December, and the label has expressed their support over their artist's most recent legal troubles. Mystikal was released from prison in January 2010 after serving a six-year sentence.

With the arrest, the recent Cash Money Records signee violated his five-year probation term that originated from sexual battery and extortion charges in 2003. Mystikals most recent solo release was the 2001 album Tarantula, which contained the hit single, 'Bouncin Back (Bumpin Me Against The Wall)'. The song attained cult-like popularity and can be heard in the background of numerous movies. Louisiana State District Judge Tony Marabella slapped Mystikal with the extended jail time over an arrest in February that led to a misdemeanor charge for domestic abuse battery. The album also featured the popular, Neptunes-produced hit 'Shake Ya Ass'. Tarantula debuted at number 33 on the Billboard 200 with first week sales of 153,000 copies, peaking at number 25 in 2002 and reaching number 4 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart that same year. In 2003, Mystikal pled guilty to sexual battery, and was released on Januafter serving a six year sentence. It spawned two singles: ' Bouncin' Back (Bumpin' Me Against the Wall) ' and the title track. New Orleans rapper Mystikal has been hit with a three-month jail sentence for violating his probation, MTV News reports. He released his self-titled debut album in 1994 and has since released 1996's Mind of Mystikal, 1997's Unpredictable, 1998's Ghetto Fabulous, 2000's Let's Get Ready and 2001's Tarantula.
